Windows XP is probably the last version of Windows that I will ever pay for. As for Windows Vista, I have tried many different versions of the OS and have never really been happy with what it delivers.

I am making this post from my linux desktop. Suse 10.1 with KDE on an old P4 1.5Ghz with 1GB of RDRAM. I have decided that my next “new” computer will run Linux instead of MS. I have tried RH, Gentoo, Suse, slack, free BSD, and a few others that I just don’t remember the name of. Gentoo held great promise until it failed mysteriously in the night…And since I am not a Linux wizard AND I am lazy, I bitched out and went with Suse. If you want to blather to me in e-mail, web forums etc about how great Gentoo is, thats fine. I like the idea of the build and would really like to make it work.

Regardless of that fact I have come to the conclusion that while its a bit more work than Windows to maintain, once you get a few things down, its very easy to make the switch. Especially if your work involves being telnetted into a remote server and your local OS doesn’t mean squat, or a place that run Unix anyway. I say let MS feel the heat a little bit, they haven’t offered a big enough reason to be a paying beta customer, which is what anyone that uses a new MS OS for the first 2 years or first service pack. Even then, you could get a SP2 or 6.
Honestly the only thing people really get out of Vista is DirectX 10, big fucking deal. My still images won’t look any better with a DX10 over my current DX9 card.

If I were to have to choose between paying for a new OS or better equipment, I would rather buy a newer motherboard or something rather than pay for software that really isn’t ready.

If you are a combo of redneck and metro sexual, this is for you. Don’t primp and preen a truck that advertises a lifestyle of constantly being off-road and one of being a cowboy when the most off road driving your giant SUV/truck/whatever will see is when you drive over the curb at McDonald’s to get to the drive through faster. Drop the “cowboy up” crap too. Its been overused and screams “behind the times” without you ever having to say a word. Having a cellphone won’t save you either, even if it has bluetooth and all the bells and whistles.
Lets clear the air here also and say that the hanging metal scrotum casting on the trailer hitch needs to be put away too. I certainly don’t give a shit about how fucked up your life is if you based your manhood and identity on the vehicle you drive and your assumed reception of the image projected. Its childish at best, and utterly ridiculous otherwise.  And besides, it takes a real man to pile into a tiny car and drive like a banshee…
Don’t grunt, try to use words when attempting to communicate with other humans.  Jesus kills puppies and kittens when you grunt rather than use a known language.
The civil war in America ended over 140 years ago, so please drop the “Rebel Pride”  facade, its cheesy and worn out.  I don’t fucking care if your ancestors fought in the civil war…Judging many people around here, I would assume they probably fought for the losing side.  Its pointless to get angry about a war that happened over a century before your birth.  Unless you invent a time machine to alter history, get over it and drop the subject.

When you smoke, use the fucking ashtray in your car and don’t throw the butts out the window.

The wonderful blizzard in Denver has grounded my flights today, and they won’t even open the airport in Denver until at least noon tomorrow.  That leaves me 2 days behind on travel.  It would have been faster at this point to have just hopped in the car and driven.  I was supposed to take off at 6:30 this morning.  Instead I have been attempting to get in touch with the airline since last night and have received nothing but a busy signal.  Tried to call the travel agent, but they were of no help either.

Sadly, the customer care center for my airline is in Denver, of all places.  So until they get more people in to answer the phones or something, I am pretty much boned.

Congress passes tax breaks, finishes with flourish –

The “do nothing” or 109th Congress is over.

Of course, they left the big work for the next congress.  If the republicans had won again this November it would be different, I am sure.

Technology, FTL.  I guess we really do repeat history if we don’t learn from it.  Or perhaps we have seen a new era of conservation?  Who knows.  Anyway, here is the link that got me all up in a pisser enough to blog about it.

Crude Oil and Total Petroleum Imports Top 15 Countries

Where does America get the greatest amounts of “ull” from?

Canada. Not Saudi Arabia, which is surprising for some people.  Not sure why this happens so often, but people like to argue about semantics, which is fucking annoying.  Arguing with the facts is largely pointless.

Not really breaking news here but I wanted to put it out there.

America is on an oil high. Its like crac…wait a tic. Oil is like well….Oil.

Its something that people can’t get enough of. Refined petroleum is a modern energy “crack high.”
