When Republicants ran the show in DC, they constantly larded legislation with pet projects for the mouth breathers back home. Now they are the ones forcing Democrats to be more open about Congress’ pork barrel ways.

This smacks of hypocrisy, big time.  From September 11th, 2001 on, our government has run deficit spending non stop.  Iraq is the biggest money pit we have right now.  Without that, our nation might be able to say protect the borders, fix a failing infrastructure, fund education completely, etc.

Call me crazy, but if the majority can’t do it, the minority can’t either.

And this is why I stick with my car whenever it breaks down.

LEAWOOD, Kan. — Kansas City defensive end Jared Allen will serve two days in jail for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The sentence came Wednesday after the defensive end pleaded no contest in Leawood Municipal Court. The judge then found him guilty of the charge.

Allen’s two-day stint will be at the Johnson County Jail. He also must spend two days in a lockdown treatment program and one day on house arrest. The case stemmed from a September stop in Leawood. It was Allen’s second DUI charge. In January, Allen was found guilty of DUI and sentenced to two days in jail after being stopped in Overland Park. He had been granted diversion to have that DUI charge dismissed, but an Overland Park municipal judge revoked the diversion after Allen was charged a second time.

So the guy gets busted for DUI a 2nd time, and gets a whopping 5 days of trouble.  I imagine if a non celebrity were to do this same act, they would be given months of prison time.  Stupid judge, stupid system….

I am making this post from my linux desktop. Suse 10.1 with KDE on an old P4 1.5Ghz with 1GB of RDRAM. I have decided that my next “new” computer will run Linux instead of MS. I have tried RH, Gentoo, Suse, slack, free BSD, and a few others that I just don’t remember the name of. Gentoo held great promise until it failed mysteriously in the night…And since I am not a Linux wizard AND I am lazy, I bitched out and went with Suse. If you want to blather to me in e-mail, web forums etc about how great Gentoo is, thats fine. I like the idea of the build and would really like to make it work.

Regardless of that fact I have come to the conclusion that while its a bit more work than Windows to maintain, once you get a few things down, its very easy to make the switch. Especially if your work involves being telnetted into a remote server and your local OS doesn’t mean squat, or a place that run Unix anyway. I say let MS feel the heat a little bit, they haven’t offered a big enough reason to be a paying beta customer, which is what anyone that uses a new MS OS for the first 2 years or first service pack. Even then, you could get a SP2 or 6.
Honestly the only thing people really get out of Vista is DirectX 10, big fucking deal. My still images won’t look any better with a DX10 over my current DX9 card.

If I were to have to choose between paying for a new OS or better equipment, I would rather buy a newer motherboard or something rather than pay for software that really isn’t ready.

Sadly, the customer care center for my airline is in Denver, of all places.  So until they get more people in to answer the phones or something, I am pretty much boned.

Where does America get the greatest amounts of “ull” from?

Not really breaking news here but I wanted to put it out there.

It is cold and windy, and my camera doesn’t take good pics in this stuff.  The flash just bounces while the distortion of light is just insane.

More snow keeps falling.  Its nice to see so much snow.  I have not seen a decent amount of snow in Kansas City in about 8 years now.

Regardless, I have started working in training dogs beyond basic obedience training. Most dogs I have worked with have been owned by the same person, the breeder. He seems to keep it all under control, with only 1 litter of pups a year, and only in the spring. His dogs are smart, show no fear and are confident in their manners.

Now he has been trying to train another German Shepherd from a different breeder, which operates more like a puppy mill from what I am understanding.

The dog is cowardly, afraid and not confident.  It doesn’t respond well during agitation, and tries to hide rather than protect.  To help break this I stood against a wall and gave him almost no lead, so it was fight or fight for him.  That finally made him respond.

In all,

Don’t buy a dog from a puppy mill.

Yeah, hook it up to your Xbox 360. Hook it up to your desktop computer via USB 2.0 and then suddenly have a $200 HD DVD player for your desktop computer. If you have a high end computer and a nice big flat TV with HDMI and 1080P support, you get a cheap HD DVD player.

What does all this mean?

The PS3 is a monstrous assault in a battle between huge companies. The add on HD DVD drive that is universal for the Xbox is huge.

Sony is counting on the PS3 being its main wedge in the war between Blu-Ray and HD DVD. If Sony wins, it will be on the receiving end of a rather large royalty payment when companies make or sell a Blu-Ray device or media. Of course, many other companies other than Sony helped create the standard for Blu-Ray, and will share in the payment, but still Sony gets paid and wants revenge for Beta.

HD DVD, however does not have a massive media blitz going for it. But its far cheaper than Blu-Ray. And…its actually available. Not in huge, huge numbers. But I can go to my local Wal-Mart and plunk down my money and suddenly have the “next big thing”. I was blown away when they had a HD DVD player in the store, for sale, and actual stock of the player and some HD DVD movies. The discovery of the in stock Xbox HD drive was a surprise also. I have failed to see anything for Blu-Ray, but now that the PS3 is out driving some demand for Blu-Ray based content will dramatically rise over the next few months.
With auctions going insane on Ebay, it will be a while before Blu-Ray is thought of as affordable. Being technically better on paper but overpriced is a bad situation to be in. But if Sony somehow does pull it off with the PS3, it will be a coup for the Blu-Ray standard over HD DVD. If Sony fails and Blu-Ray falters off to the side, it will have a heavy horse to carry in regard to the PS3. Telling people that they purchased expensive electronic paperweights is not always fun. OF course, the Xbox is going to be able to switch at any time it needs to either format. Telling a few thousand people is better than telling every person that purchased your product that the format you backed is really the losing standard. I could imagine the press release for that.

Of course, the Nintendo Wii could very well wipe them both off the face of the earth. With the desire to ship 4 million units this year, they have ambitious goals and desires. With good press, good tech and actual units for sale, they may top Sony and Microsoft, since those two units are extremely over priced. Yes the ability to play games in 1080P HD is great, but since 99.5% of Americans don’t even know what that means, its pointless. Most HD displays can’t do 1080p yet. Some can, but they are expensive still. The lack of an HD or Blu-Ray drive doesn’t really hurt the Wii, since it is hooked up via wi-fi. It can download and play loads more games than the Xbox and Xbox 360, the Original Play Station, the PS2, and now the PS3 can. Plus the Wii can play any Gamecube game. How about them apples? I have many cool games I would like to keep playing on the Gamecube.

Problem solved.  I will get the add on HD DVD drive and use it to bypass higher costs, while getting a Wii to keep playing games with.

Even if you make $10,000,000 you aren’t really super rich, you can still go broke.  Are you really better off now than you were 2,4,6,8,10,15,20 years ago?

The Democrats won this year, but now have to prove consistently that they can work to really help the people of America.
